What Is Beauty?
While I was studying at Goddard College one of my advisors asked me to describe what beauty was. This not only helped me to define the work that I was drawn to but also helped me to talk about it.
Beauty is a subjective thing. I believe that it can be seen in almost anything as long as it has a few characteristics. I find beauty in things that are soft, gentle, and a bit mysterious. Most of the images that I find beauty in do not include people in a direct way. I find that when I include a person in a photograph that person’s personality dominates the image. This dominance then becomes the main focus in the image and removes the subtlety and gentleness of the image. Therefore the images I include below include only hints of humanity or none at all.
