I designed this chandelier after renovating the dining room in my home. The existing chandelier no longer went well with the new furniture.
I went to work thinking of designs to better accommodate the space and incorporate my photography. After a few months of tossing around different ideas, I came up with this design. The light is 5 feet long, a foot wide, and 11 inches high. I designed the lamp with four fluorescent light fixtures that face downward. They did not work well with the dimmer, so I exchanged them for standard tungsten light bulbs. Those lights sit close to the top of the frame, which is all joined using biscuits and no nails. It is a very simple design with the main focus on the image.
I brought back some pine cones from California's Sequoia trees. I placed them on top of the fixture.
The full 360-degree surround image was created by stitching together several still images that I took while I was in California. This image covers the entire lamp and includes the entire 360-degree circumference. I made one print in color and the other in black and white. I used the color image to pull together the other colors in the room, including the reddish cast in the flooring and green plants in the room. This image is warm, with red hues and sunlight backlighting. The green foliage accents the red hues. This image is sandwiched between two pieces of Plexiglas to help flatten and remove any bowing and bubbling of the image.
