Clothes Rack and Image

After returning from Utah, I wanted to remember and keep the experience close to my heart and always know there was a place where peace and reality were accessible. Living in and around New York City is great, but sometimes I lose peace to its fast pace. Being in Utah, I felt small and insignificant. It gave place to a greater power than what man does to man and what I can do on my own. It left me feeling humble and part of something greater than myself. It was a great experience. I don’t think I could live there, but I felt more rested and excited than I had in a long time. This was greater than going to Hawaii, perhaps because in Utah there were not too many people clamoring around and disturbing my peace.

While there, I shot several images. The one below was shot at Zion National Park. After fixing this image in Photoshop, I printed it on my HP 130 NR printer and inserted it into a clothes rack frame that I had made. The frame was relatively simple to make and put together using a biscuit joiner. The design is in keeping with Mission style, in which the sides butt directly up to the top and bottom pieces. No miter corners are found in this framing. I added a shelf on the top and five hooks on the bottom for utilitarian features. Function and form meet, form being the style and design of the piece and function the service it performs. The shelf holds some of my knickknacks of glass, stone, and wood. I managed to use my photography art and my craft and furniture building together in a successful way.

The image’s earthy and majestic quality adds to the overall Mission style look and feel of the rack. A shelf adorns the top of the frame to hold other objects from the same region. Five Mission style hooks were attached with screws on the bottom framework.
