Dresser Design and Construction

I designed and built the dresser below for a specific reason. I needed a drawer that locked to hold my jewelry and I needed more storage space for my sweaters. The top section folds down using a piano hinge and reveals my surround system and cable box, which were in the open before along with several unsightly wires.
The dresser had to match the Mission style furniture that I had in my bedroom also. Buying the right hardware and making the dresser a certain height were relevant factors in my design. The dresser matches the other furniture in the room pretty closely except for the stain. My dresser is redder than my original furniture, and I used birch for the inset, not oak. I liked the grain in the birch better.
