Retrieving Maple Burls

You have seen the large birdhouses that I sell? Click Here. Several of them have Maple burl faces on them. This image shows me harvesting them from a fallen tree. I actually went out and bought a chainsaw for the project. The home owner was great he was an artist too so I understood my desire to make something from the burls. Cherry Burl - Preparation for a Future Project

I bought this big hunk of Cherry Burl while vactioning  in the mountains and worked for several days getting the bark from it. I used a chisel, hammer and a screwdriver. It was really messy to say the least. Once it dries a bit more I will pour wash it to get rid of the ret of the bark and dirt. It weighs around 50 lbs I think and was a bit unruly to work with but I am hoping it is worth it. At some point I will cut it into slices to use on my Large Birdhouses. Check...

Travel and Inspiration

Please subscribe here for news and discounts: While traveling in Western North Carolina I hiked to this remote waterfalls. The hike was down a mountain 4 miles which wasn't too bad. It was going back up after forgetting water that was a problem. A nice Russian guy gave me the rest of his water, yep he had already drank from it! It didn't matter I was pretty desperate that that point!  Despite this adventure AKA "Stupid Move" I made it out and found the coolest and most inspiring things.
